Have you ever been in the grocery store checkout line, on a Zoom call, or talking with a friend when they quietly say, “Will you pray for me?”
Most of us respond with a sincere, “Yes, of course.”
But if we’re honest… sometimes we remember to pray later, and sometimes we don’t. Not because we don’t care, but because life moves fast, distractions show up, and good intentions slip through the cracks.
Yet Jesus showed us something different. He didn’t wait for “the right time” or “a better moment.” He paused. He saw people. He stepped into their need right then.
What if we followed His example?
A New Habit: Pray Now, Not Later
Here’s a simple challenge that can transform your spiritual life and the lives of those around you:
When someone asks for prayer, gently ask, “Can I pray for you right now?”
Most people will say yes. Many will be surprised. Some may cry. All will feel loved.
It doesn’t have to be long, perfect, or eloquent.
Just pause… invite Jesus in… and pray a simple prayer.
Something like:
“God, you see this need. We ask for your peace, your wisdom, and your presence. Please remind us that you are near and that you care. Amen.”
In that moment, you’ve done more than promise— you’ve delivered encouragement, hope, and connection.
Why It Matters
This week, try it once.
Next week, try it again.
Before long, it becomes your natural response.
A lifestyle of prayer begins with one small step:
Stop. Ask. Pray.
“As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. I Samuel 12:23
