What an Impact Two Hours Can Make

What an Impact Two Hours Can Make

What if loving your neighbor didn’t require a long-term commitment—just two hours?

Last Saturday, a small group of people said “yes” to showing up, and in just two hours, the life of a single mom and her two children was changed. Dawn was overwhelmed by everything that needed to be done before winter arrived. The weight felt heavy. The clock felt loud. And hope felt distant.

Then neighbors came.

In those two hours, the load was lifted. What felt impossible became manageable. Dawn and her children were overwhelmed—not by the work—but by the love and support surrounding them. They could hardly believe how much was accomplished in such a short time, and the relief of knowing this was done before the snow flies was priceless.

This was the first Saturday Serve project facilitated through Thrive on Purpose, and it reminded us of something powerful:

When people show up together, two hours can change everything.

A Challenge to Churches and Individuals

Imagine if every church put two hours a month on the calendar to love their neighbors.

Not a program.
Not a committee.
Just people seeing people, sharing love, and serving where the need is real.

This is the heart of Saturday Serve—a simple, repeatable way to put loving your neighbor into action. Thrive on Purpose is capturing this process and placing it on our website so churches across the United States can do the same.

The Thrive on Purpose website launches December 1.

Our prayer is that this becomes a turning point—where churches move beyond intention and step into transformation, both for those being served and for those serving. Two hours.  Willing hands.  Open hearts. You already saw the impact.

Scripture reminds us:

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

The next steps is simple:

My desire is to daily look for people who need a hand or encouragement, and join the Thrive on Purpose movement.

Or be a leader to partner with a friend to lead a few of your friends to give two hours to love your neighbor?

Or provide equipment, supplies, funding for projects to serve neighbors.

Reflect

  • Who is God inviting me to see this week?
  • What simple act of love could I offer with a group of friends for Saturday Serve?
  • How might serving change me as much as them?
